The story begins in the 1940s with Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat) being exiled from Wasseypur for impersonating a legendary dacoit to rob trains. This exile leads to a lifelong rivalry with Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia). Decades later, Shahid’s son, Sardar Khan, rises to become the most feared man in Wasseypur as he seeks to restore his family’s honor.

Gangs of Wasseypur is a semi-fictional account of the real-life events that took place in Wasseypur, a small town in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The story revolves around the rise of a young gangster, Danish Iqbal (played by Nasiruddin Shah), who becomes a notorious figure in the town. The movie follows the journey of his son, Shahid (played by Siddiqui), who takes over his father's legacy and becomes embroiled in a bloody gang war.
