The CODEX Update 5 version delivers exactly what the marketing promised: a visceral, unfiltered tour of Hell. The gore is cranked to eleven, the environments are drenched in explicit imagery, and the horror is rooted firmly in the grotesque. For a game banking on shock value, the censorship of the original defeated the purpose. The UNRATED edition restores the artistic vision (no matter how twisted that vision may be). It is disgusting, yes, but it is finally cohesive.
